Love Lift Me - A Novel

It's been a long time in the making, but it's finally done! Love Lift Me is the type of story I always want to read - the plot takes time and the characters develop a relationship at a realistic pace - there's no "instant romance" like a lot of books out there these days. Several of the things that happen are actually based on real-life occurrences that I've experienced and the setting is none other than my old home state of North Carolina, where I lived for several years.

I hope that you'll enjoy it and let me know what you think. Reader feedback and reviews are the most important thing to an author who wants to please her readers!

"I couldn't put my finger on it until I saw you sitting on the end of that pier, Kat. It was like..." He pressed his body against mine and his explorations grew more intense. I felt his hot breath tickle at the thin skin behind my ear before his lips closed together and kissed me there. "...like I'd lost someone that made me feel something amazing. Something real...and then I found her all over again. And now, here you are. With me."

Katherine Atwater was about to start her new life, but instead she's headed back. Back home. Back to her cancer-stricken mother. Back to a lover who lied and tore her heart to pieces.

Attorney Shane Logan is going the same way, on the same bus, and preparing to try the biggest case of his career. He didn't expect to find a woman like Kat on this trip. He never imagined he'd be saving her life.

After barely surviving the accident, Kat wonders if she'll ever again see Shane, the handsome man with soulful amber eyes who rescued her. A hero was just what she needed. The sound of his voice stirred up the most wonderful, longing ache inside of her she'd ever felt. Somehow, with him, all of her troubles seemed to lift away.

To Kat's surprise, Shane finds his way to her small town. He's come to risk it all righting the wrongs of a greedy billionaire and his gorgeous, deceitful daughter, but will Shane risk taking a chance with the girl he saved?

Did you like Romancing the Stone?

I know I did. If you haven't seen it, then you should.

Romancing the Stone had every element of a great romantic adventure movie:

  • Adventure in a new land
  • Action-packed fight scenes and chases
  • Great comedic timing and one-liners
  • A sexy hero with just the right amount of bull-headedness
  • A beautiful and smart woman thrown in over her head

Modern writers look to this movie as a general plot guideline for laying out a movie or book that appeals not only to a female audience, who are mostly looking for romance and intrigue, but to the male audience, who want something a la Indiana Jones or Star Wars, with scenes of danger, fighting, and bravado. There are scores of self-help publishing and authorship books which point to all these movies as a way to do this, and for good reason - it works. Who hasn't heard of at least two of these mega-popular titles?

When I sat back and looked at these movies, one thing stuck out to me like a sore thumb: Not enough sex.

Sure, there are brief flashes of skin, a few romantic kisses, and emotional, romantic tension between the main characters. There just isn't enough hot, sweaty, love-making going on...and who doesn't want more of that?!

Without devolving a storyline into badly-acted "porn" territory, I wanted to make a story of my own that blended all of the above elements into something that readers could get a kick out of and make their temperatures rise. So, I wrote Lost In Blue.

It's the story of a middle-aged female archaeologist named Marie Brisbee, who has relegated her life to cleaning and restoring artifacts and priceless treasures instead of going out and finding them. She's nearly given up on men, most of which fail to bring any measure of real excitement into her life. When her comrade sends her a desperate message from the field and a real-life treasure map, she's forced to leave her safe, comfortable, boring life and go help.

Along the way, she runs afoul of a greedy thief that is being paid to find her and the jewel she seeks and a ruthless murderer who has slain her comrade and is on the hunt for the treasure himself. Despite Marie's initial reluctance, she takes up with Ethan McReady, a stunningly handsome jack-of-all-trades that is just as much brash and abrasive as he is protective and lonely.

As they survive the harsh wilderness of the tropical island they're on and the hair-raising adventures they get themselves into, Marie and Ethan develop a mutual attraction to each other. She shows him that there is more to life than just money and he shows her what it means to have some real excitement and mind-blowing sexual pleasure.
